Aww, I don't think it looks bad at all. It looks really nice. The coloring is so vivid and ich looking, you're not losing your touch at all. And the shading looks great and the lighting looks good too, how you smoothed in the light colors with the base, it looks like it was done so well. Really nice picture, I'm sure she'll love it. ^^

shading human skin with lighting effect is aways a pain in the brain. be it by hand or computer, something will always give to grief about it. but the only way to beat the sob is to practice until you figure it out. I feel that I'm only half way to finding myself a technique that I'll finally be happy with, but until then, I'll practice and mess up then practice again.

so don't give up even if it looks like the fugliest thing you've ever seen. figure out what you feel you did wrong, and give it another go. you'll only stay in the same place if you don't push yourself.

...... God.... that reads like a mouthful of hot-sauce, did I just type all that out???

anyway, cheer-leading aside, I kinda like the grimy look the grain gives this one, it just adds to his, erm, bad-ass-characteristics? I dunno, but it ain't the worst thing I've seen, that's for sure.

Holy shite dude! This looks wonderful! You always draw Carlos AMAZINGLY!! HO wow! I absolutely fell in love with (again) his superbly hot expression!! That grin just ooooozes sex

I'll give you a tip for shading skin, this is what I do:
First of all, before you even start colouring in any other parts of the skin, take your yellow pencils and shade lightly with the yellow along all the places where your light source with illuminate the skin remember that the cig is your light source here, and as light travels in waves, the light will illuminate everything in a certain radius, depending upon how light the source is! Also, remember that not all parts of his face will be lit up, and the light will create more shadow in the darker areas.
Take a look at his neck here, the light patch in the centre there doesn't really seem like it fits into the right place. I would actually think that dependant on where the cigarette is, the muscle structures in his neck would be highlighted (as you have done with some of those lines already, and the light would blend a little further to the centre. I think that little patch in the centre is a bit random, as you don't tend to get a part of the neck there that bulges out to catch the light. Same thing goes for his upper lip there, the whole top part is highlighted and in reality this wouldn't be the case, the left most side would be lightest and then the light would fade gradually across the face.

However, since you don't work with light sources that much, I think this is a really decent attempt and that with a little more practise you would get it right down

I'll finish off by saying that his hair looks utterly gorgeous! The style of it is just beautiful!
